Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
Acceptance
By using Placera — whether as a guest or as a registered user — you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Not financial advice
Placera is an educational planning tool. It is not a registered financial advisor, portfolio manager, or investment dealer under the Securities Act (Quebec) or any other applicable legislation. Nothing in the app constitutes financial, tax, legal, or investment advice.
Projections, contribution-room estimates, tax-refund estimates, and goal-planner outputs are mathematical models based on the numbers you enter. They do not account for your full tax situation, market risk, management fees, or regulatory changes. Always verify contribution room and tax implications with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or a qualified professional before making financial decisions.
CRA reference data
Annual contribution limits, TFSA cumulative room, RRSP and FHSA caps, and other CRA-published figures used in Placera are best-effort references. They may be outdated or incorrect. Placera makes no warranty as to their accuracy. You are solely responsible for verifying your actual contribution room through My CRA Account or a qualified tax professional.
Subscription and billing
Placera is a paid service offered after a free trial. New accounts begin with a 14-day free trial — no payment card is required to start. To continue using the cloud service after the trial, a subscription is required.
Plans: $3.99 CAD per month or $39.99 CAD per year (the annual plan is the equivalent of two months free). Prices are in Canadian dollars and exclude any applicable taxes. Payments are processed by Stripe; your card details are entered directly with Stripe and are never stored by Placera.
Distance contract disclosure (Consumer Protection Act, s. 54.4): Before you are charged, the total price, billing frequency, what is included, and how to cancel are clearly displayed on the checkout page, and you must affirmatively confirm the transaction before any payment is processed.
Automatic renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. We will send a reminder at least 30 days before any annual renewal. You may cancel before the renewal date at no charge.
Cancellation: You may cancel at any time from the billing portal (Manage subscription in the account menu) or by emailing support@placera.ca. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then and are not charged for the following period.
Failed payments: If a renewal payment fails, your access continues during a 7-day grace period while we retry. If payment is not resolved, the account becomes read-only.
What happens when access lapses: When a trial ends without subscribing, or a subscription lapses, your account becomes read-only — you can still view your data, and your right to export your data and to delete your account always remains available, free of charge. Your data is retained so you can resume by subscribing.
Refunds: If you cancel within 10 days of the start of a new billing period and have not materially used the service during that period, you are entitled to a full refund of that period's charge under the Consumer Protection Act (s. 54.13).
User responsibilities
You agree to:
- Provide accurate input data for your own planning purposes.
- Keep your passphrase, recovery code, and PIN confidential. Placera cannot recover encrypted data if you lose these credentials.
- Use Placera only for lawful personal planning purposes, not for commercial financial advice services or any activity that violates applicable law.
- Not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the service or its infrastructure.
Service availability
Placera is provided on a best-effort basis with no uptime guarantee. The service may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time. Registered users will receive at least 30 days' notice before a permanent discontinuation, and will be given the opportunity to export their data.
Guest data stored in your browser is your responsibility to back up. Placera is not liable for loss of guest data due to browser clearing, device failure, or forgotten credentials.
Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Placera does not warrant that projections will be accurate, that the service will be error-free, or that any specific financial outcome will be achieved.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Placera and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including lost savings, missed contribution room, or tax penalties — arising from your use of or inability to use the service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under the Quebec Consumer Protection Act or other mandatory law.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of Placera shall first be submitted to the Privacy Officer at support@placera.ca for informal resolution. If unresolved, disputes shall be submitted to the courts of the Province of Quebec. Consumer rights under the Quebec Consumer Protection Act are not affected by this clause.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Registered users will be notified by email at least 30 days before material changes take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If you do not accept a change, you may permanently delete your account at any time using the Delete account option in the account menu, including before the effective date.
